Application: Green Tea contains compounds known as catcchins,
specifically the catechins epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG),
epigallocatechin (EGC), and epicatachin-3-gallate (EGC), which
accounts for 30-40% of the extractable solids of Green Tea Leaves.
Researchers at the University of Kansas estimate the antioxidant
power of EGCG to be 100 times greater than that of Vitamin C and
20 times greater than that of vitamin E in protecting the body's cells
from free radical damage.
Herbal Nutritional Supplements Green Tea capsules contain
40% EGCG, which is 5% more than one of the most popular Green
Tea capsules on the market today.
Why Is The Percentage Of EGCGs So Important?
It is the EGCGs in Green Tea that has one of the most promising anti-
cancer compounds ever discovered. In addition, clinical studies have
shown that Green Tea has demonstrated the following results:
Breast, Gastrointestinal tract, Esophagus, Stomach, Pancreas
Cancer - Current studies are suggesting a possible chemo-
preventative effect of Green Tea with the above mentioned cancers.
The studies are also stating that taking Green Tea on a regular basis
has a preventative effect.
Prostate Cancer - Cancer of the Prostate Gland is the most
common malignancy in males today. Even with successful treatment
some patients are left with devastating side effects such as impotence
and difficulties with urination. A research study performed at the
prestigious Mayo Clinic revealed that the catechins (EGCGs) in
Green Tea actually kill prostate cancer cells.
Smoking & Lung Cancer - Studies were published in April 1999
(Indiana University School of Medicine & American Health
Foundation in Valhalla, NY) showed that Green Tea inhibits the
carcinogenic effect of smoking and also inhibits the growth of
malignant lung tumors. Green Tea can actually be used in the
treatment of lung cancer. Although smoking should be discouraged,
Green Tea can be a potent inhibitor of the negative effects in those
people addicted to tobacco.
Colon Cancer - WebMD reported in March 2003 on a study that
showed Green Tea had a protective effect against colon cancer. The
study recommended that you take Green Tea every day for cancer
prevention. The Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University
stated in February 2003 that, like aspirin, Green Tea slows the
progression of colon cancer. The report also states, "What's
especially significant is that as far as we can tell, consumption of
Green Tea has none of the side effects of aspirin, which can be
severe."
Arthritis - The National Academy of Science reported a study from
the Department of Rheumatic Diseases at Case Western Reserve
University in Cleveland, OH (1999) which showed Green Tea could
prevent the onset of collagen-induced arthritis. This is the type of
arthritis seen in autoimmune diseases such as Rheumatoid Arthritis
and systemic Lupus Erythematosis. The studies showed that Green
Tea could reduce the severity of these diseases in humans.
Allergies - In September of 2002 it was reported that Green Tea
helped to prevent allergic reactions. In laboratory tests, the EGCG in
Green Tea was discovered to block production of two substances
that trigger and sustain allergic reactions. Hirofumi Tachibana,
Associate Professor of Chemistry at Kyuchu University in Japan
states, "If you have allergies, you should consider taking Green Tea."
Other Benefits of Green Tea :
